• Manager of Specialty Pharmacy

  • Overview

    This newly created position will be responsible for managing the new drug pipeline for Specialty and High Cost Medical Drugs.  Individual will be responsible for P&T presentations, contracting, place of service and instituting best in practice management protocols for high cost drugs.


    • Develop, implement and run strategic initiatives regarding the appropriate use of high cost drugs
    • Demonstrate savings and cost avoidance from programs
    • Compare and value different strategies based on generated data and prepare and present recommendations formally
    • Maintain positive relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers and develop pricing that supports management initiatives
    • Value based contracting
    • Present potential strategies to internal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner including key senior leaders
    • Drive ideas forward and obtain cross functional buy-in based on the analysis of effectiveness of drugs, drug cost, and drug market share
    • Close collaboration with Provider Network Management, Benefits and Claims
    • Delegation oversight and day-to-day management of Specialty Vendors
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Corporate Compliance Responsibility - As an essential function, responsible for complying with Neighborhood’s Corporate Compliance Program, Standards of Business Conduct, applicable contracts, laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures as it applies to individual job duties, the department, and  the Company. This position must exercise due diligence to prevent, detect and report unlawful and/or unethical conduct by fellow co-workers, professional affiliates and/or agents


    • Licensed to practice pharmacy on Rhode Island or eligible for reciprocity (license within 6 months of starting required)
    • Bachelor's Degree is required but Master's Degree or Pharm D preferred
    • 2+ years Direct Specialty Pharmacy experience
    • 5+ years’ experience working in a managed care, health plan or Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) organization required
    • Demonstrated experience in building and running programs
    • 3+ years of experience with provider payment methodologies and managing medical drug spend
    • At least an intermediate level of proficiency in performing financial impact analysis, risk management, and data manipulation
    • Supervisory experience
    • Demonstrates strong competency in the areas of business acumen, financial savvy, and innovative thinking.
    • Creative thinker with strong organization and planning skills
    • Ability to influence others in a positive way and work with cross matrix partners
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
