  • Overview

    This position organizes, creates and manages external and internal communications, helping educate and influence key issues in a deadline-driven and dynamic environment. Responsible for implementation of a Corporate Social Responsibility plan. This position is responsible for managing and implementing public relations activities and coordinating deliverables. He/she will ensure that PR programs are strategically aligned to the overall marketing strategy and proactively seek PR opportunities based on media trends and where the company’s value can be demonstrated. He/she will continually evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s products, programs and campaigns. He/she will maintain and build relationships internally and externally.


    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Planning and spearheading public relations programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image for the company
    • Building and maintaining relationships with media members and colleagues, usually via telephone and email
    • Researching, writing, editing and distributing press releases to targeted media which highlight company goals, objectives, policies, programs, activities and accomplishments
    • Implement Corporate Social Responsibility plan, build relationship with community agencies to identify community need
    • Work with marketing outreach staff to identify trends impacting members
    • Developing fresh story ideas
    • Content development – Creating press kits, executive biographies, quotes, fact sheets, advocacy papers, member story videos, annual reports, corporate social responsibility reports, awards submissions, graphs, social media posts and other corporate materials
    • Helping create and amplify CEO and senior management team messages – including speeches, talking points, presentations, legislative testimony, monthly update to the Board of Directors, letters, “Ask the CEO” series, company-wide meeting, blog posts and regular company announcements
    • Working with Human Resources and others to improve the company Intranet/SharePoint experience (editorial calendar, content updates, newsletter, morale focused topics, etc.)
    • Helping ensure consistent communications across the organization through regular scheduled “issues” updates, educating management on key points to deliver to internally/externally
    • Researching and monitoring the media, including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires, social media sites and blogs, for opportunities for the company
    • Proactively seeking knowledge on health care trends and engaging with key media outlets
    • Training and organizing media training for key internal stakeholders
    • Partnering with marketing team to coordinate PR support for local initiatives and new programs, including drafting and pitching media materials
    • Attending training to remain current on industry trends
    • Collating, analyzing and evaluating media coverage
    • Preparing regular reports on key success stories, regional highlights and key learning and attending internal marketing meetings
    • Managing events, including press conferences, promotional meetings, and internal events; manage event budget and expenses to that budget
    • Coordinating studio or location photography
    • Helping manage the PR aspect of a possible crisis situation
    • Ensuring appropriate internal and external approvals have been received for each communication project
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Corporate Compliance Responsibility - As an essential function, responsible for complying with Neighborhood’s Corporate Compliance Program, Standards of Business Conduct, applicable contracts, laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures as it applies to individual job duties, the department, and  the Company. This position must exercise due diligence to prevent, detect and report unlawful and/or unethical conduct by fellow co-workers, professional affiliates and/or agents

    FDR Oversight:

    • Senior Leadership Level:
      • Assures effective oversight and monitoring of the performance of all applicable First Tier, Downstream and Related Entities (FDR) so that the services being provided are consistent with all contractual and legal requirements as well as company policies and procedures
    • Business Lead Level:
      • In the role of business lead for assigned FDR; incumbent is responsible to complete comprehensive oversight and monitoring of their vendor that incorporates the following elements: efficient and effective operations; compliance with laws, regulations, policies, procedures; and other company performance issues designed to reduce risk and add value to the company



    • Bachelor’s Degree in public communications, advertising, humanities or life sciences       
    • Five (5) to Seven (7) years’ public relations experience (client and/or agency side) 
    • Demonstrated experience in:
      • Writing, editing and producing PR collateral
      • Managing PR processes including press release distribution, contact list updates and PR measurement
      • Securing media coverage and building relationships with media members
    • Commitment to outstanding customer service and continuous quality and process improvement
    • Effective problem-solving skills; well-developed personal and organizational skills
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret information and clearly present it in writing or in person
    • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and energetic
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with a high degree of independence
    • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Constant Contact
    • Must be articulate and have superior communication skills (written/verbal)
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective presentation and listening skills
    • Familiar with a variety of public relations concepts, practices and procedures
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
    • Ability to participate in and contribute to a high-functioning, dynamic work team
    • Outstanding relationship building skills
    • Must enjoy working in a fast moving environment with changing priorities and deadlines, be responsive and be able to deliver to deadlines
    • Creative, with a willingness to try to do things in a way which creates news and interest as well as having an awareness of how to position PR to create added value
    • Must have excellent accuracy and extreme attention to detail
    • Must display strong analytical and organizational skills and have the ability to identify and implement process improvement strategies with positive business results
    • Must have strong work ethics and a high level of confidentiality to ensure proper handling of sensitive information
