  • Overview

    The Senior Manager of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility plans, develops, implements and maintains the organizations communication strategy for internal and external communications, public relations, and social responsibility.  The Senior Manager does this by making the public aware of the value and importance of the organization, enhancing its image, and securing the public's input and support for the programs, projects, services and operations of Neighborhood. The role oversees four professional level staff as well as various consulting services.  This position does the writing for the executive team for internal and external communications.
    This leader works alongside Neighborhood’s Executive Leadership Team to craft messaging that effectively communicates critical business information, mission, vision and values.  This senior level position also has accountability for internal communications, external communications, crisis and reputation communications, media relations and public affairs, marketing communications including brand management and Neighborhood’s social responsibility efforts.   This leader will effectively collaborate with other leaders and functions across Neighborhood to ensure messaging are clear, consistent, timely and appropriate for intended audiences. 


    • Develop and implement a strategic communications, public relations, and marketing plan to increase public awareness and support of Neighborhood’s programs, services and activities.
    • Serve as Neighborhood’s spokesperson and establish and maintain relationships with news media representatives
    • Be the lead for all crisis communications
    • Develop and amplify the CEO’s message with external and internal audiences
    • Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of internal and external communications, media relations, and external relations programs
    • Advise the Executive Leadership Team (and Board of Directors, when applicable) of the attitudes, perceptions, criticism, and reactions of members, community agencies, employees, businesses, political figures, advocates, governmental agencies, and media groups to the policies and actions of Neighborhood - provide guidance on how to effectively respond to those issues and implement an effective course of action
    • Manage the writing and editing of press releases, issue briefs, annual reports, feature articles, news stories, postings, social media reports, and other communications which highlight the goals, objectives, policies, programs, activities and accomplishments
    • Write informative material, scripts, speeches, and other communications for the executive staff, Board of Directors, and other executives of Neighborhood.
    • Facilitate the creation and dissemination of organizational communications policies.
    • Create internal communications to help employees understand and align with company business goals, initiatives and programs
    • Be a principal contact for media relations
    • Be responsible for all written communications, including electronic and print communications with staff, contributions to company publications, marketing materials, websites and client/community engagement communications
    • Work with other functions including HR, IT, Safety and Contracts to support their communications needs
    • Provide strategic counsel to Executive Leadership Team and senior management teams, business unit managers and client sector leaders to build and protect corporate brand name and image
    • Provide change management communication strategies for corporate initiatives
    • Manage, coach, develop and provide leadership to Communications team members, including direct supervision, mentoring, coaching, formal and informal performance management and career development
    • Provide leadership guidance for Neighborhood’s approach to social responsibility
    • Manage budget for the Communications Department
    • Corporate Compliance Responsibility - As an essential function, responsible for complying with Neighborhood’s Corporate Compliance Program, Standards of Business Conduct, applicable contracts, laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures as it applies to individual job duties, the department, and the Company. This position must exercise due diligence to prevent, detect and report unlawful and/or unethical conduct by fellow co-workers, professional affiliates and/or agents

    FDR Oversight:

    • Senior Leadership Level:
      • Assures effective oversight and monitoring of the performance of all applicable First Tier, Downstream and Related Entities (FDR) so that the services being provided are consistent with all contractual and legal requirements as well as company policies and procedures
    • Business Lead Level:
      • In the role of business lead for assigned FDR; incumbent is responsible to complete comprehensive oversight and monitoring of their vendor that incorporates the following elements: efficient and effective operations; compliance with laws, regulations, policies, procedures; and other company performance issues designed to reduce risk and add value to the company



    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field
    • At least 10 years` experience in market/communications at a corporate level (can be combination of client or agency side) to include:
    • Developing and articulating a creative vision for organizational communications
    • Managing external and internal communication processes
    • Managing Public Relations and Media Affairs
    • Developing and implementing an effective brand strategy
    • Utilizing online and offline media processes
    • Building and maintaining relationships with elected officials, government agency staff and media contacts
    • Demonstrable leadership competencies such as teamwork, creative problem solving, flexibility, results driven, interpersonal skills, negotiation skills
    • Outstanding communication and presentational skills to include exceptional writing skills
    • Experience across media relations, corporate communications, crisis management, public affairs and/or marketing communications
    • Demonstrated ability to perform well under deadline pressure.
    • Effective problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple tasks; well-developed personal and organizational skills
    • Financially literate and politically aware


    • Master’s degree in related field preferred
    • Bilingual
    • Experience in a nonprofit, mission driven organization or similar company
